On 5 November commissioner Isaac Mayom Malek told Good News Radio that the next phase will involve the confiscation of arms in the possession of those who retained illegal firearms in the previous phases.

Malek disclosed that since 768 firearms have recently been collected in the county, the security situation has improved.

However, he reserved caution due to the approaching dry season, in which scarcity of resources can lead to heightened tension.

Malek thanked the citizens of the state for their cooperation with the programme.

In September a civilian-led, UN backed and Sudan People’s Liberation Army enforced disarmament programmes began in Lakes, Warrap and Unity state. 2,000 arms were collected during the month.

Disarming civilians is a very good thing. At least this time around if someone grabs your piece of land, it will end in the court room and not by the gun. The national army is doing a good service to the nation and therefore deserves credit from all the people of the ROSS. We want the rule of law to be the one in ROSS not the gun.Pick all the guns from the goons in South Sudan!!!!

The government should bulldoze all of the weapons in front of the public to see. That the government means business. Putting these guns in storage is not a good idea. Some of the corrupted officials will steal them and sells them back to the public. This cycle need to end immediately.
