August 1, 2011 (KHARTOUM) – A company based in the Arab Gulf state of Kuwait has expressed interest in conducting oil-wells drilling and exploration activities in Sudan, state media reported on Tuesday.

Sudan’s daily oil output currently stands at 110,000 barrels, according to official figures, after the country lost nearly 75 percent of the previous 500,000 barrels per day figure it was splitting evenly since 2005 with South Sudan which seceded on 9 July.

Officials say they expect the current oil figure to rise to 170,000 barrel per day by 2012.

Exploration and production scene of Sudan’s oil sector is dominated by Asian and Arab companies, with Chinese-led companies as the main operators.

A delegation of Gulf Petroleum Investment Company (GPI), a Kuwaiti shareholding company, arrived in the country and held a meeting on Tuesday with the country’s acting minister of oil Ali Ahmad Osman at his office in Khartoum.

The minister instructed the competent departments at his ministry to provide GPI with necessary support and facilitate its venture to join Sudan’s market of oil wells drilling and exploration.

Meanwhile, the company’s delegation apprised the minister of its activities in oil-exploration fields, including its operations in Egypt, UAE and Syria.

It is not clear where will the Kuwaiti company’s exploration activities take place but new explorations are underway in a number of areas.

In October last year, Sudan announced that oil exploration activities would be initiated in three areas in South Darfur State, one of the three states that make up the country’s war-battered western region.

In 2006, Sudan awarded a license to a consortium of Arab and Sudanese companies for block 12A which covers part of North Darfur and stretches up to the border with Libya.

Analysts opine that oil exploration activities in Sudan are subject to a number of uncertainties, including political instability and armed conflicts.

    Kuwait has become one of the most important country for Sudan, it has the biggest investments ever in Sudan and that’s why Sudan government had chosen Kuwait as the place for launching its internation investment workshops for eastern Sudan few months ago and they were able to bring many investors to the east with billion of dollars and of course Kuwait was among the highest figures.

    Where ever you go in Sudan you can see the fingerprint of Kuwait in most if not all the big successful development projects in Sudan and Kenana sugar factory was the most successful and famous one in Africa and all the region, now they invest on Marwai Dam, Roserious dam second phase, Setit dam, Atbara river dam, White Nile sugar factory (another big sugar factory in the region and to be opened by the end of this year), you really can’t count on the big, meduim and small projects that Kuwait are investing on!

    I remember Dr Abdalla Alsorei, the former Kuwaiti ambassador in Sudan (may Allah accepts his soul) who refused to leave Sudan and spent most of his life in Sudan and contributed positively in all the sectors regardless governmental or public, he was considering himself as Sudanese, he also published a book about south Sudan, Alsabah hospital in Juba was established and opened during his time under his direct supervision and administration.

    Unfortunately, south Sudan government changed the hospital name, this hospital was a gift from Kuwaiti government to south Sudan people, south Sudan government should have ethics and courteous and leave that name as it is because it was just a gift to south Sudan people and you’ve to meet kindness with kidness but not the other way around!

    Absolutely, Kuwait investment in Sudan oil will give Sudan big boost and soon will be one of the biggest countries oil exporter in Africa!

    As Dr Lual Deng (I really respect this man, he only believes in one Sudan and never hides his true feeling) said, Sudan can soon export 500,000 barrel per day, and it is going to be true!

    Thanks for Kuwaiti Royal family, thanks for Kuwaiti government and thanks for all Kuwaiti people!

      @Jalaby

      come and take Alsabah Hospital to Kuwait if the stone, sand and timbers used to built it was brought from Kuwait.

      Dr. Lual alone that your praising day and night has no vision for the people of South Sudan, we the people of South Sudan can decide our destiny.

      Why the successful independence of the South Sudan is hurting you more than anyone in the North? are you better than those who signed the CPA? idiot! until you will cry blood, we will never be united again.

        Ya Bush,

        Give me one reason that will make northern people cry because of south separation??!! the people who are crying are southerners who live in the north after they lost their jobs and soon will loose their citizenship too, everyone saw them crying in the TVs when the north government celeberated their long services and said goodbye to them!!

        If one thing that may make north worried is the south oil, although south was separated since last month but we still enjoying cheap south oil and taking 50% off, as long as south oil is running through our land we will enjoy cheap oil and I bit that will continue till south oil dry out completely (LOL). We are very happy to separate from idiot and full of hatred like you!

    @Jalaba
    SPLA/M is going to rule the whole Sudan in start from 2013 forward. Not just the southern Sudan as a Country that was civilian choice not our military choice.

    The mighty African Army SPLA knew the border between Africa and the Middle East. Arab will go to Saudi and those who consider themselves as African will remain.

    They will hit the road when the sound of AK-47 is dancing at the street of Khartoum soon. Africa is for African and Middle East for Arab,Jewish, prussian.

    All black people have right to fight to end for Africa.
    We have right to bring all black to African mainland from worldwide where they are under segregations in America North, South, Asia,Australia and Europe etc; where they getting mistreated all over the world.

    Give African land to Arab is a very big mistake to foolish African people that are getting deceived by Islamic, money and girls gieven.

    Africa stay with their owner Religion; not foreigners religious will be allowed anymore in Africa. God created Africa before Jesus Christ and Mohammed propaganda political Religious.

    Long Live SPLA!
    Long live SPLM!
    Long live Sudan Nationalist!
    Long live our mighty River Nile!
    Might God bless our African Nation!
    Might god bless our River Nile!

    Son of Lord of the Nile, Nguetbuny
