The arson of dozens of churches and homes in a Christian area of the Asendabo district in Jimma occurred after a Christian allegedly desecrated a copy of Muslim holy book, the Koran, by tearing it up.

Sources from the area said that at least one person was killed and thousands of Christians have reportedly fled since the attacks erupted few days ago.

Police said it has pressed charges against the 130 suspects and said they were pursuing many others.

Over one thousand people are are said to have been engaged in the attacks, which according to sources, also has led to the burring down of 59 churches and at least 28 homes of Christians.

According to Jimma residents over 4,000 Christians have fled their homes in fear.

Ethiopia is about 60 percent Christian and 40 percent Muslim however such incidents of violence between the different religious communities are relatively rare.

It’s amazing to read such childish and stupid comments
Last year, some orthodox ethiopian christians beat evangelists and burnt down their place for prayer. Would you have recommended to burn down twice the number of ethiopian orthodox church too then ?

The first grave mistake which make this reaction stupid is to make a general rule from isolated acts. The ennemy of Ethiopia are not on the side of muslims or christians, the ennemy of Ethiopia are the ones from BOTH sides who want to oppose the one to the other. These ARE the real ennemies.

The second mistake, is to behave just like western world did and still does. The philosophy which leads to the massacres of the colonial era to the invasion of Irak. The history of Ethiopia is on the contrary based on the lessons of Amhed Gragn wars and the civil war against western christianism. In all these occassions Ethiopia was close to disappear, lost in religious wars. The castles in Gondar hold the sign of muslims and christian cross, the Lalibela church also bear signs of eastern signs, Zara Yaqob, an ethioppian philosopher of the medieval times of war, called for a time of understanding and end of these violence based on human Reason, not religious beliefs.
What I mean is that it is the lesson of the whole history of Ethiopia, not to listen to the kind of sound you are making with your tongue here.
Ethiopia desserves far more better than that.

Well, Ethiopia will be an Islam nation if Mel is still keeping business with the rich man who was been sent by the Saudi Arabia to bribe Ethiopian citizens in the exchange of what they call let us make development in Ethiopia and that is how Saudi Arabia want to converts some nation when they saw they are strong on earth. If anyone disagree with me just look the Muslim population in Ethiopia this is unbelievable that, the young Muslim population is growing very aggressive as well as the Uganda nation and these two nations for sure they will faces same problems as the Sudanese people have gone through and losing 2.5 million because of Shariah law agendas in the Sudan.

Ethiopia government need to be careful enough, because the Islam religion is become extremely preaching more violent a cross the nationwide and I think the whole world need to work out and to find good solution on this issue. They hate Christians people in all over the world by doing such unacceptable and they must be held acountable for what they are trying to fear human beings on earth.

Ethiopian Prime Minister your government need to deal with such these extremes in the serious way otherwise Pakistan style will be use in this peaceful Nation like Ethiopia.
your government shall not apply the Reformative Theory or Corrective Theory for the offender the advocates of this theory maintain that an endeavor should made -to make the Criminal harmless.this not good for Muslims attitude.

These people need to deal with Preventive Theory .preventive punishment can be inflicted in the number of ways .the offender who has committed a murder may be punished with death. thus, removing all possibility of any further crimes by him.
We don,t want Pakistan ,Iraq and Palestine style to use in our neighbor Country.
