April 22, 2010 (BENTIU, Unity State) – Police has arrested the leader of campaign team for the independent leading candidate, Angelina Teny, in the Unity state’s capital, Bentiu.

Angelina Teny today (Wednesday) told Sudan Tribune that her team leader was arrested in front of the State High Elections Committee’s office in the presence of senior ranking officers and the team sent today from Khartoum by the National Elections Commission (NEC) headquarters.

She said the arrest occurred when other members of his team that accompanied him to the NEC office were prevented from entering the committee’s compound, prompting the police to arrest him when he tried to explain that they were his team members and should be allowed to enter.

Teny further added that the whereabouts of the team leader is not yet known, causing a big concern.

        Where is Salvatore Kiir Miyerdit?

Is Salvatore Kiir happy reading that Unity state is going into chaos?

Does Kiir enjoy to see this state where his deputy comes from getting into trouble?

Why does he not tell Taban Deng Gai to accept defeat or allow for transparent verification of results if there is any room for doubt?

Could Salvatore Kiir be behind the refusal by Taban Deng Gai to accept the results?

Kiir groomed Taban Deng and always kept him in power despite the replacement of other governors since 2005.

Taban was defeated in SPLM elections in 2008 by Dr. Joseph Nguen but Kiir refused to replace him with Dr. Joseph Nguen.

Now Taban has lost again to Angelina Teny and Kiir is silent about it while knowing that Taban is refusing to accept defeat and is forcing the electoral commission to rig the votes and announce him the winner.

What is Kiir up to in this situation?

There is a saying in Nuer that a branch of a falling tree may hit you.

This means that if Kiir thinks it is non of his business to see Unity state going into violence because of his friend’s violation of democratic process, he might be surprised tomorrow that the situation in Unity state can spread like wild fire to the neighboring states.

It is advisable for Salvatore Kiir to act and tell Taban that enough is enough.

Politicians are the same and the good politician is the one who has no power so don’t trust politician beyond human life.

Also if you are Angelina supporter, you shouldn’t be talking about fighting Taban because you are destroying her images as a leader and mother. so think twice. I know Angelina will never agree with your stupid statement because she is running to help the people of Unity State and not to destroy anybody life. don’t destroy her images for your stupid thinking.

nonetheless, pointing finger at others who have nothing to do with Unity State is worthless because Unity State have people who are able to solve that problem civily without life lost. Raan Naath you are uncivil thinker who addicted to blood shed

You are not Raanda. (Raan Naath)
You are our Enemy. Politicians fight with the ballet not the bullets you fool. What good will you gain from Englina if she was to run the State? Same thing, what good will you gain if Tabaan were to run the State. You are gonna be the same regardless of the election outcome. If you were a thief, you will remain a thief. If you were a farmer you too remain a farmer. So leave the political fight to those who are running for the political seats. They will fight in the ballet box and there will be no enocents’ blood shed. After five years term, they will fight again on the ballet box and the winner will rule again for five more years. But if we were to use violence, the dead will not rise from the dead after five years but the political member might loose or win again. Stop lecturing Violence. This is Not Dinka State. Stop mentioning them in our own affairs.

        Agutayook/Apalangorok,

Your reasoning is so elementary and doesn’t convince anyone. There have been so many great women in command of wars in SPLA and Angelina is no different this time. If we are to go to the war, I don’t think people of Unity State would ask for any body rather than Angelina’s command and leadership. Unity State has so many great warriors like my state Jonglei and I don’t see them backing down. Western Eq. been under the leadership of a Lady and I don’t think they miss anything beside corruption that plaque our whole country and Africa in general.

Angelina should be given her chance because that’s what people want. President Kiir must intervene and tells Taban to accept the defeat. How would Taban administrate people who didn’t vote for him? This is logic and Taban shouldn’t impose himself. This is today and people are waiting for good governance.

          Chol Mading,

I can’t agree with you more, and the mentality of stereotyping women as weak is irrelevant to the world we live in today. there are so many great women leaders in the world today and Angelina can be one of them. the Unity State citizens have to elect or hiring somebody whom they want regardless of sexual orientation. if the war come, it will not come to her house, it will come to south sudan or Unity State and if she can handle the governorship then she can handle the war too.

i have no problem with Taban, but if i was citizen in Unity State, i could have vote for her even though i will never vote for Dr. Riek. she struggle so much in London with children after Dr. Riek married Emma McCunne and didn’t come back to London for four and half years and she never lost sight. UK home affair accused Riek for polygamy which is a crime in UK and Emma is from UK. she taught her children about the history of southern Sudan struggle regardless of differences within the movement. anyway you can read "Emma War, oil war, African cultural identity and Bor Massacre by Patterson M.

If there comes a war, we know who will fight but not the like of Dor Manjur,Taban Deng at all. Oil-rich state-Bentiu wars can and will only be fought by some true and great sons of Unity State like Peter Gatdet...........add the rest.
The point here is about SPLM and other parties which should portray democracy regarding administration/governance of South Sudan citizens. If war comes in, SPLA will come in.

I did talked to one of my cousin this morning in Bentiu and he said that Angelina’s supporters were trying to cause problem like what they did during Salva Kiir Mayardit visit to Bentiu last month. Mrs Teny supporters doing those things as a plans to tell negatives stories againist Taban Deng, this is a pure plan and that is why Angelina rush to report negatives story all the times. Folks,

We all know that Mr. Taban lost the election to Mrs. Teny, but refused to admit his defeat. It seems Mr. Slava Kiir and NEC fail to convince Mr. Taban and recognize the outcome of the election.

Mr. Taban declared that, " I’m not leaving governorship to anyone even if I lost the election." Mr. Taban himself knows that he lost the election and failed to listen to anybody. Mr. Taban declared himself to be the King of Bentiu/Liech State from time he was elected by his King, Slava Kiir. The next step will be how and when the King of Bentiu, Mr. Taban can be eliminated once and for all?

I HAVE GREED WITH YOU ON THAT DAILY CRYING OUT. I DON’T UNDERSTAND WHY MRS. TENY ALWAYS THROWS THAT BLAME FOR CONFUSION BEFORE THE RESULTS COME TO LIGHT. SHE NEEDS TO WAIT UNTIL RESULTS ARE OUT. HER CRYING OUT WILL MAKE PEOPLE CONDONE HER RIGHT EVEN WHEN IT IS THE RIGHT TIME TO BELIEVE IN HER THAT ELECTION IS RIGGED. WE DON’T KNOW AT POINT WHICH IS WHICH UNLESS WE SEE. SHE WILL EXCHANGE HER TRUST FOR FALSEHOOD WHEN THE TIME COMES AHEAD.

HOWEVER, IF THE SPECTULATION OF THE ARREST IS BELIEVED TO BE TRUE, THEN THAT THING IS A ONE BIG WRONG FOR NEC TO DELAY RESULTS AND ALLOWS THIS THING TO HAPPEN IN THEIR WATCH. POINT BLANK, I DON’T SEE A CLEAR REASON WHY ELECTORAL COMMISSION CHANGES THEIR OFFICERS FOR OTHER OFFICERS. IT IS JUST A CONFUSION INTO MESS.
ELECTORAL COMMITTEE MUST TAKE A BOLD STAND AND ANNOUNCE RESULTS OUT AS SOON AS IT IS CLEAR THAT COUNTING IS OVER, PERIOD.
THAT WAY, THE WAITING CITIZENS OF UNITY STATE WILL GET A RELIEF AND HAVE A NEW FRESH BREATHING. THIS IS A HEAVY WEIGHT IN THEIR HEARTS!

NONETHELESS, I HAVE LESS OPINION OVER THOSE WHO OVERSTATE THEIR POSITION ON THIS UNCONFIRMED BREAKING NEWS. PEOPLE HAVE RIGHT TO REACT THAT WAY, BUT THERE IS STILL DOUBT WHETHER THAT EVENT

      Gatwech,

Mr. Slava Kiir is behind all these mess, no doubt about that. As you know, Mr. Taban lost election to Dr. Joseph Nguen back in 2008, but his King, Slava imposed him on citizens of that rich State. Again, the same guy knows 100% he lost the election to Mrs. Teny, but refused to step down. I’m convinced that Mr. Taban will never leave that rich State since he was already declared himself as "King of Bentiu/Unity State" before the world. Therefore, we have left with only two options, either to eliminate him (Taban) once for all or accept him to be King of Liech State as his King, Slava Kiir wants.

Mr. Slava will not let Taban lose that State for fear both allies will not only lose the benefits of 2% oil they have been enjoying since 2005, but his own security and his King’s power might be demoralized.

I think Salva or SPLM don’t want to interfer with the NEC investigation and it will cause a problem. too many groups will cause confusion and I think that is why the GOSS want the NEC and Unity State handling the problem first.

furthermore, Riek is the vice president of GOSS and GOSS intervention will escalate the problem because Taban maybe pointing fingers at GOSS if they supported Angelina and it looks like election result are on her base on report. so i support the GOSS to let the NEC and State authority to deal with it first.

also according to the New York Time April 11, 2010, Taban and Riek problem was starting in Khartoum in 1993 or 94 and both tried there to solve their differences but they failed to nail it. i think the case should be considered as a sensitive issues. however, i believed in democracy where people right and choice should be respected.

The Taban tactic about arresting the compiegn manager sshould be to get their hand on the orginal record of the votes counts that should be presented to NEC as the evidence but shouldn’t Mr. Teny’s team have backup data somewhere that they can use in case Taban team forcfully did the unthinkable of taking the documents?

I can’t believe most of the things that happen in Southern Sudan as heros/heroines turn dictators. Taban should leave some of his characters unerased becoz of governorship. It is obvious that he is defeated. He should give up b4 he did unriversible damage to his character.

Nearly 2.7 million people are displaced in Darfur and a large number of Darfur refugees are in Chad, while the conflict continues to directly affect two million more . . .
In the South, according to the UN, at least 450 civilians have been killed and 40,000 displaced in inter-communal violence since the beginning of the year, bringing the total number of newly displaced people in that region to 440,000.

With the SPLM candidate out of the way, the writing on the wall stands out ever more clearly: Bashir will win the presidential election.
Not because the Sudanese leader is popular, but because he controls the key instruments of power – the army and the plain-clothes security organs in the north – which he has been manipulating since he seized power in a military coup in 1989.
Opposition parties began taking claims of rigging seriously after it emerged on Apr. 1 that Sudan’s presidential ballots had been printed in Khartoum, the capital – at a firm controlled by the ruling NCP – instead of in South Africa as agreed earlier.
Bashir also controls the state media – radio and television – and uses state funds and other resources such as helicopters and vehicles for his campaign. The majority of Sudan’s more than 80 opposition political parties have no access to such advantages. . .
Even before the voting begins on Apr. 11, a confident Bashir has already announced his next move. He will start campaigning for the unity of the country immediately after the elections.
“There will be no separation. Our people in the south will vote for unity voluntarily, through their own will,” Bashir said during a campaign in Sinjah, a town in eastern Sudan, on Apr. 1.
Bashir’s imminent consolidation of power is worrying northern opposition parties. With the south disinterested in the elections and focusing on the referendum, they feel let down by the electoral process.
