Career: Mr. Lanzer was previously the UN Humanitarian Coordinator to the Central African Republic. He was appointed to his current positions by United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in July 2012 replacing Lise Grande.

He first joined the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in 1992. Other positions he has held include: Chief of Staff of the United Nations Integrated Mission in Timor-Leste (UNMIT); Deputy Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator in the United Nations Mission in Sudan (UNMIS); UNDP Resident Representative in the Central African Republic; Chief of the Consolidated Appeals Process (CAP) based at the United Nations Office at Geneva; Head of the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in the Russian Federation.
Education: Post-graduate certificate in Forced Migration from the University of Oxford, a Master of International Affairs with a specialization in Economic and Political Development from Columbia University, and a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of New Hampshire.
