Background: The SSLA was founded by Peter Gatdet on 11 April 2011 in Mayom County, Unity State. However, in August 2011 just after South Sudan’s independence Gatdet was persuaded to rejoin the South Sudanese Army (SPLA) in August 2011. The rebellion continued as he failed to convince all of the rebel group to integrate into the SPLA.
