Name: Ibrahim Agboola Gambari
Born: 24 November 1944 in Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria
Background: Gambari resigned from his position as the Chairperson of the African Union Commission as Joint African Union-United Nations Special Representative for Darfur in August 2012. He was appointed in January 2010 replacing Djibril Bassolé who went on to be the foreign minister of Burkina Faso.
Career: Nigerian Minister for External Affairs, 1984-1985; Permanent Representative of Nigeria to the United Nations, 1990–1999; Chairman of the United Nations Special Committee on Peacekeeping Operations, 1990–1999; President of the Executive Board of UNICEF, 1999; Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations Special Adviser on Africa, 2000–2005; Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations for Department of Political Affairs, 2005–2007; Chairperson of the African Union Commission as Joint African Union-United Nations Special Representative for Darfur, 1 January 2010-31 July 2012.
