Dak Kueth Dak Kueth
Name: Dak Kueth / the "Magician"
Position: Spiritual leader from the Luo-Nuer tribe in Uror County of Jonglei State, South Sudan.

Profile:
Dak Kueth is a self-proclaimed “prophet from God” who, according to local officials, is thought to have vast influence among people in Jonglei State’s Uror County. Known locally a "magician", Kueth does not use spears in his spiritual practices unlike the "spear masters" of other states in South Sudan.
In March 2012 South Sudan’s army (SPLA) launched a disarmament campaign in Jonglei State following a series of violent attacks between civilians carrying arms. On 23 March 2012 Kueth and a group of armed young men who act as his bodyguards were surrounded by the SPLA but Keuth’s group refused to surrender their weapons, leading a battle that killed at least five people.
After this confrontation, Kueth and his followers crossed into Ethiopia to evade giving up their weapons, according to commander in charge of the disarmament campaign Lt. Gen. Kuol Deim Kuol.
Former abductees claimed that Kueth has political influence in the Uror County administration. Nurah Borotus, a woman abducted on 1 January 2012 from Pibor County and taken to Uror County managed to escape on 23 January 2012 to Waat, the headquarters of Uror, but says she was taken to the Kueth’s compound by police afterwards.
The SPLA claim that on 17 December 2012 they killed 19 of Kueth’s men when they attacked his forces over the border in Ethiopia. Kuol said that two men and some weapons were also captured.
