Northern Bahr el Ghazal State is in the Greater Bahr el Ghazal region of South Sudan. It borders north Sudan’s South Darfur State. Within South Sudan the state borders Western Bahr el Ghazal and Warrap states.
Northern Bahr el Ghazal also borders the disputed region of Abyei and claims the contested Mile 14 border area, which is also claimed by Sudan.
