Career: Alison Monani Magaya was as South Sudan’s Interior Minister in the country’s first independence cabinet completing his integration into the ruling Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM).

Ahead of South Sudan’s independence referendum Magaya announced in September 2010 that he and 60 other members of the National Congress Party (NCP) - the ruling party in north Sudan - joined the SPLM.
The retired Major General was received at Yambio airport, in Western Equatoria State, on 10 November 2011 as part of the reconciliation process.

Magaya served as a minister in the Government of National Unity the power and wealth sharing NCP-SPLM government, which ruled Sudan from 2005-2011.
He was the second senior politician from Western Equatoria to join the SPLM in the run up to South Sudan’s referendum following Charles Kisanga the former Secretary General of SPLM breakaway movement SPLM Democratic Change.
